LCSNW refugee resettlement teams commemorate long history of service
Lutheran Community Services Northwest (LCSNW) commemorated over 50 years of aiding refugee families with heartfelt gatherings in Tacoma, Vancouver, and Portland in early April. Teams planted rhododendrons in Tacoma and Vancouver, while a rose was planted in Portland, symbolizing the organization's enduring commitment to service. The occasion was bittersweet, as LCSNW announced a pause in its refugee resettlement program due to the new Presidential Administration's decision to terminate all related contracts. Despite this setback, LCSNW will continue offering critical support to immigrants, refugees, and asylees through services like legal assistance and behavioral health care. Staff members shared impactful stories that highlighted their dedication and the transformative power of their work.
Program Manager Siddiq Kakar noted that many staff began as clients, showcasing LCSNW’s commitment to growth and empowerment. Program Director Daryl Morrissey praised the team's heart and compassion, which have driven their success in helping thousands of newcomers. Senior District Director Peter Vogelaar echoed this sentiment, recognizing the team's long-standing impact as the heart and soul of the Multicultural Community Services family.
