Tacoma Streets Initiative II Information Sessions at South Tacoma and Swasey Library Branches Now Scheduled to Take Place on April 12

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma Streets Initiative II is set to hold information sessions on April 12 at the South Tacoma and Swasey library branches, following a postponement due to inclement weather in March. This initiative aims to enhance Tacoma's arterial streets, sidewalks, and multimodal infrastructure, emphasizing the need for improvements and maintenance. An updated schedule for information sessions includes additional dates at various library branches, allowing residents multiple opportunities to engage. A significant part of this initiative is Proposition 1, which seeks to increase utility tax rates from 1. 5% to 2% and property tax rates from $0.

20 to $0. 25 per $1,000 of assessed value, with implementation planned for early 2026. If approved by voters, Proposition 1 will appear on the ballot for the April 22, 2025 election. These sessions will provide vital information about the initiative and its implications for the community. City officials encourage residents to participate and express their views on the proposed changes.

More details can be found at the city’s official website.
