Lincoln athletes head to China

Tacoma, WALocal News

Lincoln High School's girls flag football team is preparing for an exciting trip to China next month, following an invitation from the Chinese National Football League. This opportunity was made possible due to the school's strong reputation and its prior relationship with China. The trip, which has now expanded to include multiple cities such as Beijing, Chengdu, and Fuzhou, will involve cultural exchanges and flag football coaching clinics aimed at promoting the sport among Chinese youth. Coach Smalls expressed gratitude for the opportunity and highlighted the importance of fundraising efforts to cover some expenses for chaperones and travel necessities. The team will bring gifts like Tacoma's famous Almond Roca to share with their hosts, emphasizing cultural exchange.

In addition to coaching clinics, the athletes will experience China’s rich culture, visiting landmarks such as the Great Wall and the panda breeding center. The trip also aims to spotlight the need for official recognition of girls flag football as a sanctioned sport in Washington. As the WIAA considers this amendment, Coach Smalls is hopeful for a positive outcome, underscoring the hard work and dedication of the athletes.
