Major housing project comes to Tacoma

Tacoma, WALocal News

Aviva Crossing, a new affordable housing development in Tacoma, officially commenced construction with a groundbreaking ceremony on March 19. Spearheaded by the Tacoma Housing Authority and Mercy Housing Northwest, the project will offer 129 energy-efficient homes, designed to cater to families in need. The housing mix includes half two- and three-bedroom units and half one-bedroom units, with Tacoma Housing Authority providing Housing Choice Vouchers to ensure affordability. In addition to housing, the community will feature offices for property management and resident services, along with communal spaces and retail options. The involvement of Tacoma Public Schools and the Metropolitan Development Council highlights a commitment to support children and families facing homelessness.

This project represents a vital step in addressing housing instability in the region, with plans for additional homes in the future. Mercy Housing President Joe Thompson emphasized the collaborative effort required to make this vision a reality.
