Sound Transit Angle Lake light rail station closed due to power outage

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Angle Lake Sound Transit light rail station has been closed due to a significant power outage caused by damaging thunderstorms that swept through the region. The storm resulted in overhead wires snapping, which led to the suspension of the 1 Line service to Angle Lake. Passengers on a stuck light rail train were safely escorted off the elevated platform, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Sound Transit is currently assessing the repairs needed to restore power and service, but the timeline for these repairs remains unclear. To mitigate the impact on commuters, RapidRide A Line buses have been introduced to provide additional transportation between SeaTac and Angle Lake.

The situation underscores the vulnerability of transportation infrastructure to severe weather events. Sound Transit has committed to keeping the public informed with updates as they become available. Residents are encouraged to remain patient as crews work diligently to resolve the issue.
