Record breaking crowd for Athlete of the Year

The Pierce-Tacoma Athletic Commission reached a significant milestone on March 13, 2025, by hosting the largest Athlete of the Year luncheon in its 83-year history, with over 560 attendees. Families, friends, coaches, and school athletic directors gathered at the McGavick Conference Center to celebrate local student athletes and their achievements. Willie Stewart, the chair of the Athlete of the Year Committee, expressed his pride in the record turnout, highlighting that they recognized 132 nominees, 31 individual state champions, and six team champions. The event's popularity necessitated additional seating arrangements, emphasizing the strong community support for local sports. Stewart noted the importance of this event, which occurs three times a year, in fostering camaraderie and recognition among athletes.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as students celebrated their accomplishments together. This annual luncheon reflects the commitment of the TAC and the broader educational community to nurture talent in athletics. Overall, the event not only honored individual achievements but also reinforced community ties through sports.
