Man arrested in Tacoma child rape investigation

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma police have made a significant arrest in a child rape case, apprehending 41-year-old Jose Orrego on two counts of first-degree rape of a child. The investigation initiated in December 2024 when the victim, an 11-year-old girl, informed her stepmother about the abuse, prompting police action. Following a thorough investigation, detectives were able to establish probable cause, leading to a search warrant executed on March 5 in Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood. Orrego's arrest highlights the serious nature of child sexual abuse and the legal consequences faced by offenders. The victim's harrowing accounts of being raped twice and being actively sought by Orrego have raised concerns about child safety in the community.

With bail set at $500,000, the case is now under judicial scrutiny, emphasizing the need for justice in such sensitive matters. This incident reflects broader societal issues regarding the protection of minors and the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing sexual crimes. The Tacoma Police Department continues to urge the community to report any suspicious activities to safeguard vulnerable children.
