The Tacoma City Council is currently accepting applications for three important positions on the Planning Commission, which is integral to the development and updating of the city's Comprehensive Plan. The positions available include District No. 4, Environmental Community, and Architecture, Historic Preservation, and Urban Design, with applicants for District No. 4 required to reside in that district. The Planning Commission's responsibilities encompass a wide range of planning issues, including zoning reclassifications and urban design, meeting on the first and third Wednesdays of each month to address these topics.

In its commitment to fostering an equitable and anti-racist organization, Tacoma encourages applications from diverse groups, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals, to ensure representation in its committees. Appointed members must complete training on the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment. The deadline for applications is April 15, 2025, and interested parties can find more information on the City Clerk’s Office website. This initiative underscores the city's dedication to community engagement and responsible governance.
