City of Tacoma Secures Over 10.6 Million in Grants for Critical Infrastructure Projects

The City of Tacoma has successfully secured $10,627,945 in grant funding for six essential infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing public safety and accessibility across the city. These projects, funded by the Puget Sound Regional Council, Transportation Improvement Board, and Washington State Department of Transportation, will significantly contribute to Tacoma's Vision Zero Action Plan, which seeks to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries by 2035. Among the projects is the reconstruction of Puyallup Avenue, which will introduce complete street elements and improve pedestrian access to Fife. The 6th Avenue and Tacoma Avenue pavement preservation project will enhance road conditions and accessibility for pedestrians. Furthermore, the Tacoma Mall Neighborhood Loop Road plan aims to bolster pedestrian and bicycle safety in a key regional growth area.

Mayor Victoria Woodards emphasized that these grants will allow Tacoma to make substantial progress on its transportation goals, fostering a safer and more livable environment for all residents. The City will also contribute approximately $3. 7 million in matching funds, showcasing its commitment to leveraging local resources for community benefit. These initiatives reflect Tacoma's strategic approach to urban planning and development, ensuring a comprehensive transportation network for its citizens.
