Tacoma Community House hosts wellness center

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Wellpoint Washington Community Wellness Center, launched at Tacoma Community House, aims to provide equitable healthcare resources to BIPOC families, immigrants, and low-income residents in Pierce County. Opened with a celebratory ribbon cutting on March 7, the center serves as a one-stop shop for vital services, addressing social drivers of health such as food access, housing, and transportation. With research indicating that social determinants influence up to 80 percent of health outcomes, the center adopts a whole-person approach to enhance community wellness. Local leaders, including Wellpoint representatives and elected officials, attended the opening, underscoring the collaborative spirit essential for tackling healthcare inequities. Tacoma Community House Executive Director Aimee Khuu praised the initiative for bringing health services directly to the community, fostering a healthier Pierce County.

Wellpoint Washington Plan President Lisa Bogard emphasized the center's role in connecting individuals to necessary resources, highlighting the importance of community partnerships. Newly elected U. S. Representative Emily Randall reinforced the value of localized healthcare delivered by familiar faces to strengthen community ties. The center represents a significant step toward addressing the pressing healthcare challenges faced by vulnerable populations in the region.
