First Reading of Ordinance 28866 Tonight

It mandates the City Manager to develop strategic policies and practices to eliminate institutional racism and ensure equitable outcomes across city departments. Blocker emphasizes the importance of focusing on the most vulnerable populations to address systemic racism effectively. The City Manager will also be responsible for providing annual reports to the City Council detailing progress on equity initiatives, including workforce diversity and racial equity action planning.

The ordinance reflects Tacoma's commitment to long-term transformation efforts and innovative responses to social issues. The final reading is scheduled for December 20, allowing community members to engage in the process through various viewing options.
