Tacoma City Council Approves New Tax Credits to Spur Employment for Individuals With Disabilities and Green Jobs

Tacoma, WALocal News

On December 19, the Tacoma City Council adopted two transformative tax credits aimed at boosting employment for individuals with disabilities and advancing green job creation. The Tacoma Work Opportunity tax credit, which provides a $1,000 incentive to employers hiring individuals with disabilities, addresses the significant barriers this community faces in securing jobs. This initiative is complemented by a revision to the Green Jobs tax credit, which also offers a $1,000 incentive for companies engaged in environmentally sustainable practices. Council Member Keith Blocker, who championed the Work Opportunity tax credit, highlighted the necessity of supporting individuals with disabilities in their pursuit of economic self-sufficiency. Mayor Victoria Woodards echoed this sentiment, celebrating the council's efforts to foster a more inclusive workforce and a sustainable future for Tacoma.

With these credits, the city continues its legacy of supporting local businesses and enhancing job opportunities for all residents. The initiative signals to local employers that hiring individuals with disabilities not only fulfills a social responsibility but also carries financial benefits. Tacoma's commitment to equity and sustainability is further solidified through these innovative tax incentives.
