Ten Positions Available on Mayors Youth Commission of Tacoma

The Mayor’s Youth Commission of Tacoma is actively seeking youth applicants for ten positions, including key leadership roles like Chair and Vice Chair, to engage middle and high school students in local governance. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that the commission reflects Tacoma's diverse community, with a particular emphasis on encouraging applications from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and individuals with disabilities. Mayor Victoria Woodards highlighted the vital role of youth in shaping the community's future, asserting that their perspectives are essential for fostering an inclusive and innovative society. The commission is organized into four committees that focus on critical areas such as Environmental Health, Social Health, Education, Arts, and Culture, and Justice and Safety. Appointed members must complete training on the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment, ensuring they are well-prepared for their responsibilities.
