The Tacoma City Council has unanimously approved the honorary renaming of North 27th Street to "Bill Evans Place," a tribute to the late community leader's profound impact on the Proctor District. This resolution was passed on August 6, 2024, and the official recognition will take place during the Proctor Farmers’ Market 30th Anniversary Celebration on August 24. Bill Evans was renowned for his dedication to creating walkable urban spaces and his tireless support for small businesses in the community, dedicating nearly half of his life to the beautification of Tacoma. His legacy includes pivotal contributions like the establishment of the Peace Plaza at Thea’s Park and the successful preservation of the Blue Mouse theatre. Mayor Victoria Woodards highlighted Evans' remarkable influence on the community, while Deputy Mayor John Hines emphasized his visionary leadership in the Proctor District.

The honorary street naming policy requires significant community support, which Evans’ proposal exceeded, reflecting the strong local backing for this recognition. The honorary name will be in effect for 15 years, serving as a lasting reminder of Evans' commitment to enhancing Tacoma's quality of life.
