Proctor Season of Summer Fun Closes Out on September 7 With Historic Cushman Street Fair

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma's Historic Cushman Street Fair, scheduled for September 7 from 11 AM to 3 PM, will serve as the grand finale of the Proctor Season of Summer Fun, offering a variety of family-oriented activities, live music, and local food vendors. Hosted by the North End Neighborhood Council, this event not only celebrates summer but also invites community members to engage in the Visioning Survey regarding the future use of the Cushman and Adams substations, which closes on September 2. Mayor Victoria Woodards highlighted the significance of the Cushman Substation as a community asset and encouraged residents to share their ideas during the fair. Deputy Mayor John Hines expressed enthusiasm for the community's involvement in reimagining these historic sites, which were built in the 1920s and recognized for their historical value in 2017. With utility operations expected to end in 2027, the city's public engagement process aims to explore potential future uses for these properties.

The fair will mark the transition from generating ideas to analyzing possible scenarios for the sites, with further workshops planned for October to discuss draft proposals. Community members are encouraged to attend the fair to contribute to shaping the future of Tacoma's historic fabric. More information is available at cityoftacoma. org/cushman.
