Tacoma, WALocal News

The City of Tacoma is investing $800,000 to bolster youth and cultural programming in District 4, following a participatory budgeting process that engaged over 12,000 residents. This funding initiative, which splits the total amount equally between cultural and youth programming, aims to provide enriching experiences for young people while honoring Tacoma's diverse cultural heritage. The Foundation for Tacoma Students will act as the city's administrative partner, facilitating a grant process that prioritizes community input and needs. Council Member Sandesh Sadalge highlighted the importance of this investment for the local youth and cultural communities, paying tribute to the late Council Member Catherine Ushka for her dedication to District 4. Organizations eligible for funding include nonprofits, community groups, and educational institutions, with a focus on serving youth aged 4-18.

A virtual information session is set for February 28, 2025, to guide applicants, with proposals required by April 1, 2025. The announcement of funding recipients will take place on April 30, 2025. This initiative underscores Tacoma's commitment to fostering youth development and cultural vibrancy in the community.
