Five Positions Available on the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities

The Tacoma City Council is actively seeking applicants for five positions on the Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities, which includes four member roles and one youth position aimed at individuals aged 16 to 18. This essential Commission consists of 11 volunteers from Tacoma and Pierce County, providing critical advice to the City Council on disability-related policies and initiatives. Members are tasked with raising community awareness and educating the public on pertinent disability issues, enhancing the city’s inclusiveness. In a commitment to diversity, the City encourages applications from BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, as well as those with disabilities, seniors, and immigrants. The appointed individuals will also need to complete training on the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles.

The application deadline is set for June 9, 2024, and interested candidates can submit their applications through the City Clerk’s Office. This initiative highlights the City’s dedication to fostering an equitable and anti-racist organization that truly represents Tacoma's diverse community.
