Ten Positions Available on Mayors Youth Commission of Tacoma

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Mayor’s Youth Commission of Tacoma (MYCT) is currently accepting applications from middle and high school students for ten available positions, including leadership roles such as Chair and Vice Chair. Mayor Victoria Woodards emphasizes the critical role of young people in shaping the future of Tacoma through their involvement in local governance. The MYCT is structured around four key committees—Environmental Health, Social Health, Education, Arts, and Culture, and Justice and Safety—each led by elected Chairs and Co-Chairs. The city is particularly encouraging applications from BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those with disabilities to foster a more equitable representation. Successful applicants are required to complete training on the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act within 90 days of their appointment.

This initiative not only empowers youth but also aims to build a vibrant and inclusive community in Tacoma. Applications must be submitted by June 15, 2024, and interested candidates can find additional information on the city's official website. Engaging youth in governance is essential for cultivating innovative solutions to local challenges.
