Residents Encouraged to Prepare as Temperatures Rise

Tacoma, WALocal News

The City of Tacoma is proactively addressing an impending heatwave, with temperatures forecasted to rise into the high 80s and low 90s starting July 5. Residents are urged to prepare and look out for vulnerable individuals, including older adults, children, and those with health concerns, who face a greater risk of heat-related health issues. The city plans to deploy outreach teams and volunteers as temperatures reach 85 degrees or if the Air Quality Index exceeds 101, ensuring unsheltered individuals have access to essential resources like water and masks. As conditions worsen, with temperatures hitting 90 degrees or an Air Quality Index above 151, cooling centers will be made available for public use. The Tacoma Public Library will also support community efforts by providing water during extreme weather conditions.

Residents can find detailed information about inclement weather resources by visiting the city's website. Additionally, signing up for Tacoma Alert will keep residents informed about emergencies and weather updates. This proactive approach highlights the city's commitment to community health and safety during extreme weather events.
