Statements From the City of Tacoma on Police Chief Avery Moores Administrative Leave

Tacoma, WALocal News

The City of Tacoma announced that Police Chief Avery Moore was placed on administrative leave on September 25 to allow for an impartial investigation into the personal use of a city asset. Following the investigation, City Manager Elizabeth Pauli determined that while Moore's actions did not aim to mislead, they did not align with the professional standards expected from a police chief. As a result, Moore received a verbal counseling and is set to resume his full duties. The Chief publicly accepted the disciplinary action and expressed his unwavering commitment to the Tacoma community and police force. He looks forward to rebuilding trust and integrity, which he believes are essential for effective policing.

This incident highlights the importance of accountability within local government and law enforcement. Both Pauli and Moore emphasized their dedication to maintaining high professional standards. The city remains focused on supporting its police department in serving the community effectively.
