Four Open Seats on Climate and Sustainability Commission for Terms to Begin May 1

The Tacoma City Council is inviting applications for four open seats on the newly formed Climate and Sustainability Commission, with terms starting on May 1. This commission will take over the responsibilities of the Sustainable Tacoma Commission, which has been pivotal in overseeing the city’s Climate Action Plan. Members will be tasked with ensuring community engagement and accountability in sustainability initiatives while representing a diverse array of stakeholders from various sectors. Meetings will occur monthly, requiring a commitment of three to six hours, and will be held in a hybrid format to accommodate all participants. The city is particularly focused on fostering diversity and inclusivity, encouraging applications from BIPOC, LGBTQ individuals, and other underrepresented communities.

Additionally, newly appointed members will need to complete mandatory training regarding public meetings and records within 90 days of their appointment.
