City of Tacoma Nominates Cassidy Maruska for Prestigious Association of Washington Cities Scholarship
The City of Tacoma has nominated Cassidy Maruska, a dedicated student from the Science and Math Institute, for the esteemed Association of Washington Cities (AWC) Center for Quality Communities Scholarship. This scholarship program recognizes high school seniors and college students who exhibit exceptional commitment to community service and leadership. Mayor Victoria Woodards expressed her delight in supporting Maruska's nomination, emphasizing her remarkable dedication and impactful contributions to the community through initiatives like Jobs 253, where she interned in City Council offices. Maruska stands out as one of only 38 nominees across Washington, with each city allowed to nominate just one student. Three winners will receive a $3,000 scholarship and a travel stipend to attend the AWC Annual Conference in Kennewick, set for June 24-27.
The AWC CQC Scholarship is designed to empower young leaders and foster civic engagement, providing valuable networking opportunities. Council Member John Hines, a member of the AWC Board of Directors, also praised Maruska's commitment to public service and community involvement. This initiative not only supports students but also strengthens the future of civic leadership in Washington.
