Applications open for TAC scholarships

The Tacoma-Pierce Athletic Commission has officially opened the application process for two significant scholarships aimed at local high school and college students. The scholarships are named after notable Tacoma figures, Clay Huntington and Stan Naccarato, who made substantial contributions to sports and civic betterment in the community. The Clay Huntington Sports Communication Scholarship grants $2,500 to students pursuing careers in broadcasting or journalism, honoring Huntington’s legacy as a pioneering sportswriter. Meanwhile, the Stan Naccarato Sports and Civic Betterment Award Scholarship also offers $2,500 to students actively involved in sports and community service, reflecting Naccarato’s dedication to youth and civic engagement. Jessica Moore, an administrative representative for the TAC, highlighted the importance of these scholarships in promoting the intersection of sports, journalism, and community service.

Winners will be recognized during the "Salute to Sports" event on June 12, providing a platform to celebrate their achievements. This initiative underscores the TAC's commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders in Pierce County. Students from any high school in the area are encouraged to apply, ensuring broad access to these valuable opportunities.
