Metro Parks brings Disability Resource and Recreation Fair

On January 25, 2025, Metro Parks Tacoma will host the Disability Resource and Recreation Fair at the STAR Center, an event designed to support individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. Nearly 50 organizations will showcase their services, which include adaptive recreation, healthcare, education, and advocacy. Katt Merilo, a recreation coordinator for Metro Parks, highlighted the event's goal of removing barriers to recreational access, emphasizing that recreation is a fundamental aspect of life. The STAR Center was chosen for its accessibility features, including its single-story design, making it easier for attendees to navigate. Additional accommodations will include sensory kits, a quiet space, and ASL interpreters, ensuring that all visitors can participate fully.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to enter a prize drawing by engaging with various vendor booths. This initiative not only promotes awareness of disability resources but also encourages community involvement and support. The fair runs from 12-3 p. m. , providing a welcoming environment for all.
