The Tacoma Sister Cities International Film Festival is scheduled to commence on February 27 and will take place every Thursday until March 27 at The Grand Cinema. This year's festival features a diverse selection of films from Tacoma's sister cities, with the opening night film being the Japanese production "Close-Knit," which delves into family dynamics and the journey of acceptance. A significant highlight this year is the inclusion of a film from Kochi, India, which underscores the growing relationship between Kochi and Tacoma as sister cities. Syed K. Jamal, an Indian American entrepreneur, has been instrumental in fostering this partnership and promoting collaborations in filmmaking.

The festival will also include cultural discussions and guest speakers related to the showcased films, enhancing the community's cultural engagement. The overarching theme for this year's festival is "Coming of Age Around the World," which aims to resonate with audiences through relatable narratives. With its focus on international cinema, the festival not only entertains but also educates attendees about different cultures and perspectives. This event is a testament to Tacoma's commitment to cultural exchange and community involvement.
