Applications Open for TAC Scholarships Supporting Local Students

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Tacoma-Pierce Athletic Commission recently opened applications for two scholarships, aiming to empower local students in their educational and career pursuits. The Clay Huntington Sports Communication Scholarship provides $2,500 to deserving candidates interested in journalism or broadcasting, honoring the influential local figure who began his sportswriting career as a teenager. The second scholarship, the Stan Naccarato Sports and Civic Betterment Award, also offers $2,500 and targets students who are not only engaged in sports but also actively volunteer in their communities. Both scholarships exemplify the TAC's commitment to supporting local talent and civic engagement, reflecting the values instilled by their namesakes, both of whom significantly contributed to Tacoma's sports culture. Applicants are required to submit an essay, letters of recommendation, and transcripts, ensuring a thorough evaluation process.

Winners will be recognized at the TAC's "Salute to Sports" event scheduled for June 12, 2025. This initiative not only highlights the importance of education in sports but also encourages students to give back to their communities. As such, it serves as a meaningful opportunity for young individuals in Pierce County to advance their aspirations while honoring the legacy of local sports figures.
