Sister Cities announces youth video contest

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma Sister Cities is excited to announce a new youth video contest for students aged 13-22, inviting them to explore the theme "Agents of Change in My Community. " Participants are encouraged to create three-minute videos that celebrate individuals making a positive impact locally or share the change they aspire to effect. The contest aims to broaden participation by including a third age category for older students, ensuring that youth from Tacoma and its 14 Sister Cities can engage meaningfully without competition among themselves. Selected entries will be showcased at the Tacoma Sister Cities Film Festival, taking place from February 27 to March 27, with a special screening of contest videos on March 20. This initiative aligns with the increasing popularity of video content creation among youth, particularly on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Helen Milus, the Tacoma Sister Cities Facilitator for Youth and Education, highlights the importance of providing a platform for young voices, stating, "Kids have something to say and hopefully this will give them a place to say it. " The contest also builds on recent collaborative efforts, such as the "Peace Begins with Art" exhibition featuring artworks from Tacoma and its Sister City Brovary, Ukraine. Submissions for the contest are due by February 14, and further details can be found at the provided link.
