JustServe links volunteers to opportunities

During the Tacoma City Council meeting on January 28, 2025, Mayor Victoria R. Woodards presented a proclamation honoring JustServe, an innovative platform that connects volunteers with community service opportunities. Launched in 2012 by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, JustServe has expanded globally, providing a free online resource for individuals seeking to contribute to their communities. The proclamation emphasizes the importance of volunteerism in building a compassionate and resilient society and encourages residents to engage with JustServe. org.

Woodards referred to JustServe as a "gift" from the LDS Church, highlighting its potential to mobilize community support regardless of religious affiliation. In a significant milestone, Tacoma also received the JustServe City Award, becoming the first city in Washington state to be recognized for its commitment to volunteering. Pat Gerlach, president of the Tacoma stake of the LDS Church, presented the award, underscoring Tacoma’s vibrant culture of service. JustServe collaborates with established nonprofits to streamline volunteer opportunities, making it easier for residents to connect with local needs. The city's partnership with JustServe is expected to enhance community engagement and foster a spirit of collaboration among residents.
