What should Tacomas newest bridge look like? And where should it be built?

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma's Parks Tacoma is initiating a project to build a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge across a ravine in Swan Creek Park, focusing on enhancing connectivity for local residents. The agency is currently considering two potential locations on the park's west side, with public voting open until February 23 to gather community preferences. In early January, Parks Tacoma hosted an open house to present various bridge design options, including suspension and arch styles, while also collecting public feedback through surveys. The agency aims for the bridge to be more than a simple concrete structure, emphasizing the need for designs that reflect the natural environment and local aesthetic. Initial funding of nearly $400,000 has been provided for preliminary studies, though full funding for construction remains to be secured.

Following another public engagement session in spring, the preferred location and design will be finalized by June. This project not only seeks to improve access to the park's amenities but also aims to foster community unity and promote active transportation. The initiative underscores Tacoma's commitment to enhancing public spaces and encouraging outdoor activities among residents.
