Tacomas piano in the sky to remain on roof of building serving a new musical purpose

Tacoma, WALocal News

The iconic Clinton's Music House in Tacoma will soon house the Ted Brown Music Outreach, a nonprofit focused on music therapy and community engagement, while retaining its famous "piano in the sky. " The redevelopment, valued at $850,000, aims to create rehearsal spaces, classrooms, and a music lounge, enabling a diverse range of programs for musicians of all levels. Established in 2007, the outreach has successfully provided repaired instruments to underprivileged students throughout Washington state, fostering access to music education. Executive Director Christopher Uebelhor emphasized the importance of keeping the piano as part of the building's refurbishment, symbolizing the community's musical heritage. The initiative not only reflects a commitment to music education but also honors the legacy of local music businesses like Ted Brown Music, which has been serving the community since 1931.

Additional plans involve leasing space to a nearby winery, enhancing the cultural landscape of the area. The outreach also offers various summer camps and music therapy sessions for different age groups, further contributing to community well-being. This project signifies a positive step towards enriching Tacoma's musical environment and supporting local talent.
