Violent clash between parents at basketball game linked to Gig Harbor coach suspensions

Tacoma, WALocal News

A violent clash between parents at a Gig Harbor High School basketball game has drawn attention to the recent suspension of three coaches from the girls' basketball team. The altercation took place in a bathroom after the game, where one parent allegedly assaulted another, stemming from accusations related to an anonymous letter that led to the coaches' administrative leave. The Gig Harbor Police responded to the incident, documenting the victim's account, which described being pushed into a wall by the other parent. Fortunately, the victim did not sustain injuries and opted not to seek medical assistance. The Peninsula School District is currently investigating the complaint that prompted the coaches' suspension and has yet to reveal any details.

In light of the incident, the district is reassessing its security measures to ensure the safety of attendees at school events. District spokesperson Danielle Chastaine reiterated the district's commitment to a secure environment for students and families. Chief Kelly Busey confirmed that the police have identified the suspect and are reviewing additional video evidence before proceeding.
