Driver hits light pole while doing doughnuts in Gig Harbor, gas station loses power

Tacoma, WALocal News

In Gig Harbor, a dramatic incident occurred when a driver performing doughnuts in a red Ford Mustang crashed into a power pole, resulting in power loss for a nearby gas station. The police arrested the 32-year-old driver for DUI after locating his vehicle with extensive damage just two blocks from the crash site. During questioning, the driver claimed mechanical issues caused the collision, a statement that may complicate legal proceedings. Separately, police were alerted to a stolen U-Haul van parked at a local store, which led to a pursuit after the driver recklessly weaved through traffic and ignored traffic signals. The chase ended when the U-Haul collided with construction cones, but the driver managed to escape.

Both incidents reflect ongoing concerns about reckless driving behaviors and vehicle theft in the community. The Gig Harbor Police Department is now working with the city prosecutor to review the cases and determine appropriate charges. Local residents are urged to remain vigilant as these issues continue to impact public safety.
