A new McDonalds is planned in Lakewood. Heres what we know and how you can have a say

Tacoma, WALocal News

A new McDonald's is in the works for Lakewood, aiming to establish a drive-thru and dine-in restaurant on a vacant parcel near San Francisco Avenue Southwest and Bridgeport Way Southwest. The proposal, set to be discussed in a public hearing on February 18, has garnered attention from local residents interested in its implications for community development and employment opportunities. Covering approximately 3,900 square feet, the restaurant will include signage, lighting, parking, and landscaping, complying with the Neighborhood Commercial 2 zoning regulations. This initiative follows a recent announcement of a similar McDonald's project in Tacoma, indicating the fast-food chain's growth strategy in the area. Centerforce, a nonprofit nearby that assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has no direct connection to the project, but expressed willingness to support job placements for its clients if opportunities arise.

Written public comments on the proposal will be accepted until February 14, enabling residents to engage in the planning process actively. The hearing will be conducted virtually, making it accessible for community participation. This development underscores the critical role of local input in shaping urban growth and the potential benefits of increased dining options in the region.
