3 WA cities named among 'fastest growing' in US, according to report

Tacoma, WALocal News

Spokane, Tukwila, and Tacoma have emerged as some of the fastest-growing cities in the United States according to U-Haul's 2024 Growth Cities and Metros Report, which reflects a significant trend in migration patterns. Spokane ranked No. 24 among growth metros, while Tukwila and Tacoma secured spots at No. 8 and No. 17 in the top 25 growth cities, respectively, indicating a shift towards smaller cities that offer affordability and a better quality of life.

The report is based on over 2. 5 million one-way U-Haul transactions, providing a clear picture of where people are relocating. Spokane's allure lies in its blend of urban amenities and outdoor recreational opportunities, making it a prime choice for those transitioning from more expensive urban centers. Tukwila and Tacoma's rankings highlight their growing status as attractive alternatives to Seattle, which is known for its high cost of living. Nationwide, Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington topped the growth metros list, while Ocala, Florida, was recognized as the number one growth city for the second time in three years.

U-Haul officials note that while the data does not directly link to economic or population growth, it serves as a valuable indicator of housing trends and moving patterns. For those considering relocation, the full list of U-Haul’s top growth cities and metros can be found on their website.
