Downtown Tacoma plant store, gift shop that served as launchpad for creatives to close

Tacoma, WALocal News

Sunny’s, a beloved artisan gift shop and plant store in downtown Tacoma, will officially close its doors in March 2025, just four years after opening in 2021. Co-owners Sarah Oh and Ryan McGowan shared their heart-wrenching decision to prioritize their marriage over the stresses of business ownership in a recent social media post. The store has served as a vibrant community hub, offering a diverse array of plants and artisan goods, while also acting as a launchpad for local creatives and small businesses. Oh expressed the joy of building relationships with customers, noting, “You became more than customers; you became friends. ” With the last day of business set for March 2, the couple encourages locals to continue supporting other small businesses in the Antique Row area.

The closure comes as many small businesses face unprecedented challenges, and the owners hope their message will resonate with the community. They reflect on the beautiful moments shared within the shop, from celebrations to shared laughter and tears. As they close this chapter, they assure the community, “It’s not goodbye — it’s see you soon.
