Downtown Puyallup to Welcome First Bookstore in Over 35 Years

Emily Foster's page & pine is set to open in downtown Puyallup by late May or early June 2025, bringing an independent bookstore to an area that has been without one for decades. Responding to community feedback, the store will cater to local reading interests and host events like book clubs and author signings. Foster has lived in Puyallup for 15 years and previously ran a mobile bar business before pivoting to the bookstore, which she believes can foster community connections. She aims to understand her customers' preferences to tailor the inventory effectively, asking, “What are they reading? What excites them?

” The support from the local business community has been significant, with offers of help in setting up the new shop. Kerry Yanasak from the Puyallup Main Street Association highlights the historical significance of this opening, noting that it’s been 35 to 40 years since a bookstore has been in the area. The push for revitalization in downtown Puyallup has included the opening of other businesses like an ice cream shop and a bakery, demonstrating a growing trend of community engagement. With a focus on collaboration over competition, Foster's bookstore is emblematic of the ongoing efforts to reinvigorate the downtown area.
