Oft-malfunctioning Tacoma bridge closed once again. This time by cold weather, city says

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Hylebos Bridge in Tacoma is facing another closure due to cold weather-induced mechanical issues, as announced by the city. In an effort to maintain shipping operations, the bridge has been locked in the up position, preventing vehicular traffic. This recent closure follows a prior incident in December when the bridge was shut down for motor replacement, emphasizing recurring maintenance challenges. The city has warned that low temperatures are expected to linger into the following week, with forecasts predicting that temperatures may remain at or below freezing. As a result, the bridge will not reopen to vehicles until the weather conditions improve.

The city has committed to providing updates regarding the bridge's status as they become available, ensuring that residents and commuters are informed. This situation underscores the significant impact of weather on local infrastructure and transport systems. Residents are advised to plan alternate routes during this time.
