Tacoma Seeks Volunteers for 2024 Charter Review Committee

Tacoma, WALocal News

Tacoma's City Council is preparing to review the City Charter, which has not been amended since its adoption by residents in 1953. A Charter Review Committee, made up of 15 appointed residents, will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the charter and recommend necessary amendments to the Council. Volunteers will need to commit four to eight hours weekly for meetings, discussions, and community engagement, making this a significant time investment. This once-a-decade process is vital for modernizing Tacoma's governance framework, ensuring it reflects the diverse perspectives and needs of the community. By participating, residents can influence legislation that directly impacts their lives and the operations of local government.

The committee will also gather citizen feedback and prepare reports to guide the Council's decisions. Interested individuals are encouraged to step forward and contribute meaningfully to their city. This review process is an essential aspect of democratic governance, ensuring that local laws remain relevant and effective.
