Christmas Comes Early for Happy Children

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Christmas celebration held on December 21 at People’s Center in Hilltop was a heartwarming event that brought joy to many children and their families, offering gifts, snacks, and essential winter coats. Organized through key partnerships with organizations such as Selden’s Home Furnishings and the Tacoma Police Department, the event showcased the power of community collaboration in addressing local needs. Families had the opportunity to win bicycles, while local school counselors identified those who would benefit most, ensuring priority service. Attendees were treated to popcorn, gift-wrapped toys, and bags of dry goods, along with choices for turkey, ham, or chicken to enhance their holiday meals. Bishop Lawrence White highlighted the increased involvement of community volunteers and organizations, indicating that this year’s partnerships have surpassed previous efforts.

The event's success is attributed to the growing network of supporters, as emphasized by Church of the Living God Administrator Cynthia Franklin, who noted plans to serve nearly 1,500 children across both locations. With a focus on early planning for next year, the Tacoma Ministerial Alliance aims to expand its outreach and encourage donations throughout the year. This collaborative spirit and commitment to community service are set to continue, fostering a supportive environment for families in need.
