Local business owner rallies to feed neighbors

Tacoma, WALocal News

Garry Gill, the owner of Garry's on Pearl in Tacoma, organized a Thanksgiving giveaway that provided meals to around 400 families, showcasing the community's spirit of generosity. The event, held on November 23, featured a variety of Thanksgiving staples, including turkeys, pies, and grocery gift cards for added flexibility. Local businesses, particularly Macaluso’s Italian Restaurant, made significant contributions to the funding, demonstrating collaborative efforts within the Tacoma community. Gill's commitment to philanthropy is rooted in his upbringing in India, where he witnessed the challenges faced by less fortunate families. Volunteers, including members of the Ruston Fire Department, helped make the event a success, fostering unity among participants.

The initiative exemplified the local ethos of sharing, as attendees offered their food to those in need when supplies ran low. This effort not only addresses immediate needs but also strengthens community ties, encouraging ongoing support and collaboration. Gill plans to continue these initiatives year-round, including providing back-to-school supplies for children.
