Fundraising on for new seats at Blue Mouse Theatre

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma is launching a significant fundraising campaign titled 'Old Theatre-New Seats,' aiming to raise $50,000 to secure a matching grant from the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. This initiative is vital, as the theatre must install new seating by June 2025 to meet grant conditions. Led by theatre manager Sue Evans and board treasurer Anya Evans of Tacoma Neighborhoods Together, the campaign invites tax-deductible contributions from the community. The current seating, in use since 2002, lacks ADA compliance, necessitating a reduction in capacity from 205 to 165 to ensure accessibility. The new ergonomic seats will feature enhanced lumbar support, liftable armrests, and aisle lights for improved safety.

Not only will they provide greater comfort, but they will also be easier to maintain due to their Naugahyde upholstery. The theatre encourages patrons to experience the new seating model on display in the lobby, fostering community engagement through social media sharing. Donations come with rewards, including free tickets and naming opportunities, incentivizing community participation in this essential renovation project.
