Joyful celebration for new playfield

Tacoma, WALocal News

The grand opening of the new fastpitch field at Hilltop Heritage Middle School was celebrated with a vibrant ribbon-cutting ceremony that brought together students, educators, and community members. This new facility serves a dual purpose, providing a dedicated home field for Stadium High School's fastpitch teams, who have historically struggled to find suitable venues for their games. Tacoma Public Schools highlighted the importance of equity in sports access, stating this field allows players to take pride in their home turf for the first time. The construction features modern amenities, including synthetic turf, bullpens, batting cages, and ADA-compliant facilities, all of which enhance the athletic experience. The event was further enlivened by performances from the Hilltop Heritage drumline and spirited cheerleaders from Stadium High School.

This initiative is part of a broader $535 million school construction bond aimed at improving educational facilities. As the community celebrates this achievement, additional projects like the Peck Athletic Complex are on the horizon. Overall, the new field marks a significant investment in youth sports and community development in central Tacoma.
