Land Trust founder gets pleasant surprise

Tacoma, WALocal News

In a fortunate turn of events, Jessie Baines, founder of the Pierce County Community Land Trust, secured additional funding for housing initiatives through a grant application to WaFd Bank Foundation. Initially awarded a $5,000 grant, Baines learned that this amount would be matched through a Federal Home Loan Bank program, bringing the total to $30,000. This financial support will enhance the PCCLT’s Homebuyer Education program, designed to assist low- and moderate-income households in Pierce County with the complexities of homeownership. Baines emphasized that this funding showcases the commitment of WaFd Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank to affordable homeownership initiatives. The program will help clients improve credit scores, manage debt-to-income ratios, and connect with mortgage lenders.

Additionally, WaFd Bank collaborated with the Federal Home Loan Bank to award $10,000 to New Horizon Communities, further supporting housing efforts in the region. Baines and community leaders are dedicated to empowering their neighbors and enhancing housing access, illustrating how effective partnerships can address housing challenges.
