Over 7,000 marijuana plants seized from illegal cannabis operation in Tacoma, police say

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Tacoma Police Department's investigation into an illegal cannabis operation resulted in the seizure of over 7,000 marijuana plants on December 11, 2024. Despite holding a valid license from Washington state, the operation was found to be selling cannabis products illegally on the black market. The investigation began in June after the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board received tips about violations. During the search, officers discovered untagged plants and inadequate surveillance measures, leading to the confiscation of 7,789 marijuana plants, several pounds of manufactured cannabis products, a handgun, and three vehicles. A 35-year-old licensee was arrested and charged with unlawful possession and manufacturing of a controlled substance.

His attorney asserts that he believes he is compliant with the law and is awaiting police reports to contest the charges. This case underscores the ongoing regulatory challenges in the cannabis industry as authorities strive to enforce compliance with state laws.
