Pierce Co. residents can receive free hams for the holidays | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

The 'Hams for the Holidays' event will take place at the Tacoma Dome on December 19, 2024, providing free hams and food alternatives to thousands of Pierce County residents facing food insecurity. This initiative, led by Commencement Bank in collaboration with Tacoma Venues & Events and Nourish Pierce County, aims to meet the increasing demand for food assistance in the community. John E. Manolides, CEO of Commencement Bank, highlighted the bank's commitment to supporting local communities, especially as one of the last remaining local banks in the area. Originally aiming to distribute 1,000 hams, the program's success has allowed for plans to feed over 2,000 families this holiday season.

The event is inspired by last year's drive-thru turkey giveaway before Thanksgiving. Those interested are encouraged to register through the Commencement Bank website or Eventbrite for a chance to receive these free holiday hams. This charitable effort not only provides food but also fosters community spirit and support during the holidays, showcasing the importance of local partnerships in addressing community challenges.
