Top members of Tacoma police force to get 7% raises in 2025 | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

The Tacoma City Council has recently passed an ordinance granting a 7% salary increase to senior members of the Tacoma Police Department, effective in 2025. This raise will apply to deputy police chiefs, assistant police chiefs, captains, and lieutenants, resulting in an hourly wage increase of approximately $6. This decision is a direct outcome of a collective-bargaining agreement negotiated with the Tacoma Police Management Association and the Professional Public Safety Management Association. The estimated total cost of these salary changes is $1. 736 million over the next three years, funded through the city’s general fund.

Additionally, the ordinance allows for increased merit raises and boosts tuition reimbursement from $15,000 to $20,000 annually for certain officers. Council member Sarah Rumbaugh's absence was noted during the unanimous vote, which passed with eight votes in favor. This salary increase aligns with Tacoma's commitment to enhancing community safety, as reflected in the general fund budget of $641 million for 2025-2026. Such financial investments in police personnel aim to ensure adequate compensation and support for those responsible for maintaining public safety in the region.
