School bus driver who hit Brittanee Parker won’t face charges | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

On October 4, 2024, Brittanee Parker, a 32-year-old Tacoma resident, was fatally struck by a school bus while walking her dog. Pierce County deputy prosecutor Miriam Norman concluded that no charges would be filed against the bus driver due to insufficient evidence for vehicular homicide or hit-and-run. The accident occurred as the bus, transporting children to Impact | Commencement Bay Elementary, made a right turn while Parker was crossing the street. Video footage indicated that the driver was operating the bus normally and did not exhibit reckless behavior. Low visibility from rain and Parker's dark clothing were significant factors in the tragedy, along with the driver's inexperience.

The driver initially believed she had only hit Parker's dog, which ran away after the collision. Parker was later identified after her family reported her missing. The incident has raised concerns about pedestrian safety in Tacoma, prompting discussions on traffic regulations and visibility measures.
