Large-scale illegal cannabis operation shut down in Tacoma | Tacoma News Tribune

Tacoma, WALocal News

In a significant operation, the Tacoma Police Department has dismantled an illegal cannabis operation that was allegedly diverting products to the black market. On December 11, law enforcement executed search warrants at a 17,000-square-foot facility, resulting in the seizure of 7,789 marijuana plants and other illegal items. While the operation was licensed in Washington state, investigators found it was not adhering to legal guidelines, with products being transported without proper authorization. The investigation, initiated by tips received in June, revealed discrepancies in traceability records and the presence of untagged cannabis plants. Law enforcement agencies collaborated in this operation, which also uncovered a handgun and substantial quantities of manufactured cannabis.

The licensee, a 35-year-old man, was arrested and is now facing charges of unlawful possession and manufacturing of a controlled substance. His attorney asserts that his client believed he was compliant with the law, raising questions about cannabis regulation and enforcement in the state.
