On Friday afternoon, significant traffic delays on Interstate 5 through Tacoma were caused by a wreck near East Bay Street, as reported by the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Southbound lanes were backed up to state Route 18 in Federal Way, while northbound traffic experienced slowdowns extending to the state Route 16 interchange. The high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane was blocked, worsening the situation for commuters. Additionally, Interstate 705 faced backups in both directions due to another wreck at the I-705/SR 7 extension interchange.
