Semi crash snarls northbound I-5 traffic in Tacoma Friday night, State Patrol reports

A serious multi-vehicle collision on northbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma involving a semi-truck caused significant traffic disruptions on Friday night. Occurring around 10 p. m. , the accident left a semi tractor-trailer positioned sideways beneath the Yakima Avenue overpass, blocking most lanes. Fortunately, the Washington State Patrol reported no major injuries, although significant traffic delays were expected.

Trooper John Dattilo recommended alternate routes for drivers. By 10:36 p. m. , the blocked lanes were cleared, and all drivers involved were evaluated, with no impairments suspected as contributing factors. This incident underscores ongoing concerns regarding road safety and traffic management on major highways, and the timely response from emergency services helped mitigate further delays.
